Zero Waste Shaving with Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Hard Shaving Soap

Discover the superior shave delivered by this soap and help the planet along the way.  I recently made the switch to shaving soap and I love it.  First off, it has a nice scent and froths up really well for a clean shave.  Here is a helpful guide for how to use shaving soap but basically, you just rub it against the grain of your stubble, vigorously rub with a brush or your hands, and shave.  You can go crazy with all the shaving accessories, so some sites recommend a soap dish, but I just threw it in an old plastic container I had sitting around.  Some reviewers didn’t like the scent, saying it was too strong, but I have not found that to be the case.  It is not like you can still smell it hours later when you are out and about during the day, so it was not an issue for me.Secondly, although it cost more than the foamy stuff you by in a store, it seems like it is going to last forever.  I have been using it for my face for a few months and it still looks brand new, based on my precise scientific calculations (that is, a wild ass guess) it will last at least 13.25 months, or basically a year or more. Finally, compared to the typical, single use aluminum can or even the fancy Italian Proraso kind that comes in plastic, this bar ships in a small cardboard box that can be composted, or recycled if you aren’t a composting convert yet.  Get yourself a nice safety razor (see here for our recommendation for men or women), a brush, and a bar of shaving soap and knock out a source of single use plastic in your house forever!Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving soap does well on our sustainability checklist, so you can feel good about this purchase:

  • Packaged in a small cardboard box that is compostable or recyclable
  • Combine with a metal safety razor and you can eliminate a source of plastic waste in this part of your daily routine

A note on shaving brushes:  The brush I use is linked above, and here.  I’ve had it for years and it still works great, so I definitely recommend it.
